About this collection

Hawaii State Archives Land Index is organized by place names and by names of individuals, agencies, organizations and businesses. Indexes arranged alphabetically are to government records from the Kingdom, Provisional Government, Republic, and Territory of Hawaii. Many of the index entries refer to records from the Privy Council, Interior Department, Foreign Office, Commissioner of Public Lands, and Territorial Governor’s administration records. The Land Index is not a comprehensive list of all land records.

Names of land hui, settlement associations, and estates are found in the agency / company section. Names followed by the Hawaiian word - ma are usually land hui.

At this time names of persons, agencies, businesses and organizations for letters T - Z are available online. Entries to the online Land Index will be updated periodically. The complete Land Index is available in the reading room of the Hawaii State Archives.

The index entries refer to records in the Hawaii State Archives in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Archives is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
