Kingsford Smith (1897-1935) made the first trans-Pacific flight from the United States to Australia. First leg was Oakland to Wheeler Field, Honolulu. Second leg was from Barking Sands, Kauai to Suva, Fiji. Final leg from Fiji to Brisbane, Australia. Crew included Charles Ulm, relief pilot; James W. Warner, radio operator; and Capt. Harry W. Lyon, navigator and engineer.
